GROUP: Executive Staff PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 1 Year POSITION
SUMMARY: Assist the Director of Field Services (“Field”) to manage
department programs, implement Education Minnesota and Field
Service department priorities and objectives, and supervise
professional staff and office professional support staff. Managers
in Field Services are responsible for developing and leading key
initiatives related to member recruitment and retention, member
rights, collective bargaining, leadership development, and
organizing. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Implement
Education Minnesota Field programs to increase the capacity of
locals to meet member needs, including but not limited to
collective bargaining, contract enforcement, issue and crisis
organizing, member rights advocacy, member recruitment and
retention, legislative and political action, and engagement with
racial and social justice issues. Hire, support, and directly
supervise assigned staff. Build and support staff’s efforts to help
locals develop sustainable capacity to engage in comprehensive
action on a range of issues Develop staff’s ability to advance
equity work in locals Support and integrate Education Minnesota’s
racial and social justice goals into the work of the department.
Lead and support staff teams, both in the Field department and
across departments, to implement department and organizational
priorities and initiatives. Be a collaborative member of the Field
leadership team and the Education Minnesota executive staff team.
Build and support collaboration across staff within the department
and coordinate the work of Field with other departments. Ensure
governance understanding of and engagement in the department’s
work, as well as ensure a solid foundation for governance
decision-making on issues relevant to the department’s work.
Develop, promote, and facilitate training for staff. Assist the
Director of Field Services in the development of budget
recommendations and oversight of the Field budget. Other duties and
responsibilities as assigned. Page Break REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
& ABILITIES: Ability to promote and facilitate innovative thinking
and strategic planning. Ability to take concepts of organizational
change and effectively put them into action. Demonstrated awareness
of social, racial, and economic justice with a high level of
cultural competence. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Knowledge of labor unions, collective bargaining, organizing
principles, and members’ rights. Demonstrated ability to recruit,
train and support staff. Strong planning and organizational skills
and the ability to set and achieve ambitious, measurable
professional goals and support staff in doing the same. Experience
working with confidential and sensitive information and issues.
Ability to build strong professional relationships based on
integrity, respect, and trust. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s
degree. Two years’ work experience with a public education labor
union including labor relations, organizing, bargaining,
professional issues and member rights. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated leadership in a local or state union role, including
work as a union staff member. Experience collaborating with staff
or colleagues to set goals, hold one another accountable to goals,
and grow professionally. Experience supervising staff in a union,
campaign, or community organizing context. Experience in
bargaining, organizing, and member rights advocacy. Experience in
the development and implementation of training for adult learners.
Experience developing and implementing long-term organizing and
leadership development campaigns in a union or community organizing
context. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Some evening and weekend work and
occasional travel with overnight stays is required. Able to pass a
post-offer, pre-employment background check. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work
is in a general office environment. This position will interact
with employees, vendors, members, and the public on a somewhat
regular basis. These interactions require judgment and discretion
that can involve confidential information, private information, and
some disagreeable human interactions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Employee is
required to: CONTINUOUSLY sit, talk, and hear; FREQUENTLY stand,
walk, and repetitively use hands dexterously (use fingers to
handle, feel), reach with hands and arms, bend and physically lift
and carry up to 10 pounds; OCCASIONALLY lift up to 50 pounds and
infrequently travel by various conveyances (e.g., air, rail, auto).
CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION: Maintain confidential information related
to the organization and all personnel, employees, and staff. Page
Break STARTING SALARY RANGE: First three steps of the salary
schedule, in accordance with the current staff collective
bargaining agreement: $148,193-$154,653 annual; placement depends
on qualifications and previous experience. BENEFITS: Education
